CyberCrime
During class this week we discussed the importance of having safety with the internet. Cyberattacks happen every day whether in countries most especially in education institutions, telecommunications, and government. Which I never knew and now I am aware. The top malware would be mobile, phishing, and adware.
My personal experiences with some cyber-attacks would include:
1.) Phishing: whether it is a random text or an email in my inbox about "your UPS package is about to ship but can you put in the following information within this link we are missing". Or I am looking at my email and I got something titled A message from Amazon Customer helpdesk telling me "they are unable to process my Amazon Prime membership payment. But don't worry, it's easy to solve& we are here to help!" then it tells me the reason. There is a link to "fix it." I find it very interesting and I usually ignore them because there are many indicators to know it's fake.
Phishing has many other types whether with text messages and calls.
2.) Vishing: which is phishing via voice so a phone call. I have gotten a few of those over the phone. Trying to get some of my information like numbers to debit cards and my SS number. Knowing that when I answer it always sounds very fishy in the first place I know to hang up the phone and block the number. Knowing that blocking the number they can use many numbers to call me it's still important to block and report to junk.
I didn't think I wanted to share this one but it happened a while ago:
3.) Cyberbullying: When in school social media was a big thing especially in middle school to make you feel like you belonged or if you were just trying to make friends. When I was the new student at my new middle school it was always intimidating just trying to make friends in the first place. When I followed this one person in my class they seemed nice and this was when I was wrong and learned to steer away from quite a lot of people in my class. I posted to my Instagram one night and everyone was blowing up my comments. It was because the girl that I thought was bad news commented something very rude in my comments. It was the fact everyone in my comments was backing me up. This specific person then deleted that comment and it was after another week she found my sibling's page and was putting comments under her photos. At that point she crossed the line I was not happy.
Overall cybercrime is terrible and it happens to every person just keep your eyes peeled and do not give your information out no matter the circumstances.
