From Dot.com to Dot.bomb

Last week, in class, we talked about the revolution of the internet and what it has become from the 1990s to now. A lot has changed, and based on what we learned in class last week I can tell and it's mind-blowing. First, Professor Fry figuratively scales the popularity of internet websites based on dinosaurs. That is because all dinosaurs went extinct eventually, and so did a lot of internet websites based on what worked and what didn't work. Professor Fry also set it up like a horse race which I found interesting and made it easier for me to understand the concepts.

Also talked about how different websites became popular and which ones became busts as well. For example, Prodigy (owned by Sears and IBM) had a total amount of 1.1 million users at the time when the internet was in the boom era and this translated to the velociraptor which did very good in the computer world and was one of the many that stayed around for quite some time but eventually, when the internet became a bust it did die out and it was not used ever again.

What is also interesting that we talked about is how the many impactful people helped the internet become the internet. But also were there when the internet became a bomb and there was no recovering it. The website Genie which was owned by General Electric was also I believe Thomas Edison's contribution to society and to the website back in the day. Which I think is really cool he was not the person who helped us make electricity a creation but helped a website get up and running is actually really crazy to think about. Edison was not only a creator but a major businessman who wanted to create more things with the website Genie and also with General Electric his very own company.

But overall, this topic was very interesting to talk about. I didn't think of the many websites that were created let alone by the person that made the lightbulb I found that very interesting. I also enjoyed learning about the internet websites based on dinosaurs which was a great visual for myself to help me understand.
